2024
Hi friends!
It’s October - you know what that means!
A note from the good goblin:
Dear ol’ Bertie!
For my poem this year
I think that it’s time,
To tell the history
Of this annual Halloween rhyme.
It started way back in the 90’s,
Before Bluey or iPhones!
Before Taylor Swift!!
Before your parents were grown!
Every October
I received a mysterious letter
From a Goblin named Gertie.
Her poems were clever.
On bright orange paper
Gertie Goblin would write,
Kind words and well wishes
For my own Halloween night.
Have Fun! Be Kind!
Stay close with your friends!
Look both ways at the corner
When the sidewalk ends.
I was one of hundreds
Of excited children who
Looked for the orange letter.
What did it mean? Oh, we knew!
It meant Halloween was
Once again near.
We could collect our candy loot
And eat it with cheer!
For years, all Gertie wanted
Was to spread Halloween love.
And as the years have passed,
She now celebrates from above.
I don’t have orange paper.
And I’m Bertie with a B.
But I adore sweet Gertie,
She’s the O.G!
I try to honor her spunk
And give you a good giggle
So you smile SO big
As into your costume you wiggle.
As for me, Bertie Goblin,
I’m so fond of this mission,
To wish you a Happy Halloween,
it’s the great Goblin tradition <3
